The act and result of finding is called finding. The verb find, on the other hand, refers to discovering something or finding it, either because one was looking for it or spontaneously.
For example: "The researcher announced that she will reveal a finding that could change the history of molecular biology" , "The discovery of a ton of marijuana in the house of the fugitive shows that the investigation was well under way" , "Ante the discovery of a suspicious package, the police decided to vacate the railway station ” .
In general, the notion of finding is linked to finding or seeing an element that, until now, was unknown or hidden. A popular case of a find, in this archaeological case, is the so-called "discovery" of Machu Picchu by the American explorer Hiram Bingham.
The Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca town that supposedly was built before the fifteenth century. Located in the Central mountain range, in the Peruvian department of Cusco, these difficult-to-access ruins were seen by different people throughout history until Bingham arrived at the site in 1911. Due to the efforts made by the North American to study Machu Picchu and spread its existence, he is considered to be responsible for the find, although others had also seen the remains of the Inca town and, therefore, knew of its existence.
Let's see some of the most relevant archaeological finds of recent times in various parts of the world:
* Casa del Comandante: while they were finishing the construction of the metro station called Amba Aradam, in Rome, they found two fantastic buildings next to an old Roman barracks that had been discovered in 2016. Since they seem to be wings of this bedroom, one at each side, and that they were built at the same time, during the mandate of the Emperor Hadrian, it is believed that they are part of the same complex;
* verses from the "Odyssey": in 2018, the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports made public the discovery of a clay plaque that had inscribed an extract from Homer's Odyssey, more precisely, thirteen verses in which the dialogue between Odysseus and Eumeus. This plaque was found in the vicinity of the sanctuary of Olympia and is believed to date from the 3rd century AD, or even earlier.
In addition, there is talk of a finding when a researcher accesses a previously non-existent knowledge. Suppose that the police investigate the disappearance of a young man, whose whereabouts are unknown. The discovery of the boy's body by an agent puts an end to the lack of knowledge about the whereabouts and opens the door to the investigation to find out what happened.
In the field of art or sport, among others, a finding can be spoken of as a synonym for an individual whose abilities are extraordinary. A person with an unrivaled voice, with an unusual ability to play the piano or with a physical dexterity that makes them an amazing athlete can be qualified in this way, since the benefits of having found them reach everyone: their representatives they become rich and their followers delight in their exploits.
