In order to fully understand the meaning of the term restlessness, the first thing to do is establish its etymological origin. Thus, it must be emphasized that it emanates from Latin, specifically from the word "restless", which is made up of three different parts:
• The prefix "in-", which is equivalent to "without".
• The verb “quiescere”, which can be translated as “rest”.
• The suffix “-tud”, which refers to a quality.
Restlessness is the lack of stillness. The term is used to name shock, uproar, restlessness, or dismay. For example: "The words of the president of the company generated concern among the workers" , "Knowing that the murderer is still at large causes me great concern" , "The concern of the animals in each storm is evident" .
Restlessness can be understood as a state of nervousness that occurs in a certain situation. The person who is restless does not have inner peace nor can he relax, since there is something that causes him concern. In this way, when a worker is informed that he has to go talk to his boss, he may feel uneasy about the situation as his superior may inform him that he will be sanctioned or fired. Until you talk to your boss, then, the employee will feel restless.
Restlessness can also be analyzed as a symptom of anxiety. Being restless, the person cannot concentrate on what she is doing because her attention and thoughts are focused on another matter. This causes restlessness to cause everyday problems.
Furthermore, within the field of medicine, restlessness is spoken of as a synonym for agitation. This is a state of extreme excitement, nervousness or emotion that a person experiences due to different circumstances. From this state, it is worth knowing the following identity signs:
• It can be “formed” over time or it can appear suddenly.
• Its durability is not exact, since in some people it will only be a matter of minutes and in others it can last up to months.
• Among the main causes of agitation or restlessness are an allergic reaction, a picture of alcohol intoxication, heart disease problems, infections, trauma, lack of vitamin B6, withdrawal from nicotine or alcohol, depression, schizophrenia, anxiety…
• Whenever it is very intense or frequent, it is advisable to go to the doctor so that he can decide not only the reasons for its appearance but also the most appropriate treatment to alleviate it.
• In order to get the affected person to leave that concern behind, in addition to the recommendations of the health worker, it is necessary that they sleep well and sufficiently as well as that they are in a relaxed environment.
Restlessness, on the other hand, can be the inclination of the mind towards something: “Juan Manuel always had artistic concerns”, “My literary restlessness led me to study the work of the main Chilean poets of the 20th century” , “People who he has no concerns and that he is satisfied with fulfilling his daily obligations and nothing more ” .
