Sustainable is something that can be sustained or defended with reasons. For example: "Give me a sustainable reason not to fire Gómez" , "The judge considered that his explanations were not sustainable and decided to sentence him to life imprisonment" , "There is no sustainable reason that justifies such behavior . "
The concept is often used as a synonym for sustainable in the field of ecology. A sustainable or sustainable process is one that can be maintained over time by itself, without outside help and without the scarcity of existing resources.
The sustainable development, therefore, can meet current needs without compromising the ability of future generations. This means that economic activities based on the exploitation of oil, to cite an example, are not sustainable since oil is a non-renewable good that will sooner or later run out and that causes damage to the environment.
In this way, thanks to this type of development, what he achieves are two fundamental things. On the one hand, it is strongly committed to protecting the natural environment that surrounds us; and on the other, what is done is to achieve a better quality of life for citizens.
In this sense, so-called renewable or green energies take on a special role. They are those that are obtained through natural sources that have the peculiarity that they cannot be exhausted. In this way, for example, we find the so-called solar energy, which is the use of the sun's rays to generate electricity through devices such as solar panels.
However, it is also necessary to underline the existence of another important series of sustainable energies:
Wind. As its name indicates, it is one that is generated by the force of the wind.
Hydraulics. In his case, the energy is created thanks to the waterfalls of rivers.
Marine. Closely related to the previous one is this one that is sustained by the waves and the tides that arise in the different seas.
Geothermal or solar thermal are other types of existing green energies that have become a fundamental pillar of the different initiatives that are carried out throughout the world to achieve the long-awaited environmental sustainability. All of them are experiencing great growth because even in the most domestic environment they are used.
Sustainable development must consider the economic aspect (the creation of wealth in all sectors), the social aspect (taking into account the consequences of economic activity on society in general) and the environmental aspect (economic activity must be compatible with the preservation of biodiversity and ecosystems).
To achieve sustainable development, renewable resources should not be used at a higher rate than their generation, while non-renewable resources should be used sparingly until they can be replaced by renewable resources. The generation of pollutants, on the other hand, has to attend to the possibilities of recycling and absorption by the environment.
